Debbie offers
lessons to all levels of rider, from beginner to experienced.
Whether you are a beginner level rider eager to learn the graceful styles
of dressage, hunt seat or jumping, or an intermediate rider who would like
to enhance your current skills, Debbie can help you to learn and train in
this wonderful sport with the skill, expertise, patience, and experience that
makes her an ideal choice of riding instructor for both adults and children.
Deb also firmly believes in the importance of developing a true connection
with the animal, resulting in calm, happy, and responsive horses, and
strongly incorporates such beliefs in her teachings. Additionally,
Deb teaches with a vast emphasis on fun, safety, good sportsmanship
and building confidence, which is evident in all of her students as well as
their horses. Her lessons don’t stop there! She also strives to help
all of her students develop good horsemanship skills in order to become knowledgeable,
and independent riders/horse owners. This includes understanding horse management
issues such as health care, recognizing and handling emergencies, diet, soundness,
learning the horses body language, safe horse handling, tack fitting, hoof
care, clipping, and nearly everything else that is associated with horses.
Debbie also offers training for the horse in dressage, hunt seat, stadium and cross country jumping. In addition, she offers basic training for "green" horses, furthering current levels of training, behavioral problems and retrains from other disciplines. Deb has a gifted ability to connect with the horse as an individual, and develop a trusting relationship with the animal. She truly enjoys developing friendships with horses, and is a "natural" when it comes to acquiring this special bond with every horse she works with.
Freelance
Riding Instructor and Trainer
Debbie Freedman
has owned and ridden horses for over 30 years, working with them on a professional
level for the past 15 years. Along with teaching and training, she has also
enjoyed foxhunting for many years. Deb began by doing local hunter schooling
and open shows, eventually progressing to dressage and eventing. Her love
of the details of riding and training horses, led her in the direction of
teaching and training professionally.
Debbie has competed in eventing to novice level, shown and trained horses
in dressage thru 3rd level, and has experience jumping to 4 foot. She is Massachusetts
licensed & insured, and specializes in dressage and jumping lessons, providing
a structured system of riding and training for both horse and rider.
Her students enjoy competing in many local competitions including dressage,
eventing, hunter schooling shows, and local jumper shows.
Debbie has completed lessons and clinics with Marina Genn and Jan
Ebeling. She also rode for 2 years with Darrin Lawrence at Riverfront
Farm in Concord, MA.
Darrin generously offered Debbie his own horse Lily, an 8 yr old Hanoverian
mare, who was schooling Prix St George, to ride several days a week. This
gave her a great opportunity to school on her own.
Debbie currently trains with FEI trainer Maria Harrington a.k.a. Northern
Light Dressage. Debbie has ridden with Maria for the past 2 years. She has
also worked closely for Maria as a working student, gaining daily opportunities
to ride many different horses, mid-level thru Grand Prix. Maria also leased
her horse Gucci, a 17 year old Dutch Gelderlander, to Debbie for a year. Gucci
is a fantastic schoolmaster, having been trained and competed successfully
by Jan Ebeling at Intermediare 1, and trained through Grand Prix. Gucci taught
Debbie all the details of feel that a trainer can only describe. Though all
of her teachers are wonderful, Gucci has, by far, been the greatest one of
them all!
